Research Overview

KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) is the C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). While it lacks the N-terminal acetyl group and full-length sequence required for melanocortin receptor binding, KPV retains the anti-inflammatory signaling activity attributed to the C-terminal region of α-MSH.

In vitro research using intestinal epithelial cell lines (Caco-2, HT-29) has examined KPV's effects on pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion (IL-8, TNF-α, IL-6), NF-κB nuclear translocation, and tight junction protein expression. Studies have characterized its ability to enter cells via peptide transporter 1 (PepT1) in the gut epithelium, making it a tool for exploring peptide transport across mucosal barriers.

Cell biology research has examined KPV's interactions with intracellular signaling proteins including IκB kinase and its effects on the NF-κB and MAPK pathways.
