Pinealon (Glu-Asp-Arg) is a synthetic tripeptide bioregulator reference standard originally identified through research on peptide fractions extracted from bovine pineal gland tissue. It was developed by the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology under the direction of V.Kh. Khavinson.
As a short peptide bioregulator, pinealon is studied as a proposed epigenetic modulator: its small size and amphipathic properties allow membrane permeation, enabling chromatin-interaction assays in pineal and neural cell preparations. In vitro studies have used it as a tool compound to characterize antioxidant pathway readouts (ROS scavenging assays) and anti-apoptotic signaling endpoints in neuronal cell lines.
Preclinical model studies have employed pinealon in circadian biology assays examining activity-rest rhythm endpoints, and in mitochondrial function measurements in neural tissue preparations. These represent laboratory model systems; all findings are preclinical and do not constitute evidence of any therapeutic effect.
All referenced studies are preclinical or in vitro. Not for human use.
